The Mime Collection
Five figurative paintings: four, 6" x 6" acrylic paintings on black watercolor paper. One, 12" x 12" oil painting on Arches oil paper.
This collection started from a mistake I made when ordering panels. I wanted artist panels which are flat on the top. What I got was pour panels which are not flat on the top but have a raised lip all the way around. I also wanted a bigger size, these are only four inches square. I was so bummed when I opened the box. But! I didn't send them back because I couldn't help myself from asking, what can I make with these? I put them on the shelf and that's where they stayed for some time.
Awhile later I happened upon those panels and thought to myself, these look like little mime boxes. The collection was born. I made two, then two more. The four small acrylic paintings look great together but they needed an anchor piece and I added the larger portrait.
Now that the collection is finished, friends and family have had wildly divergent interpretations of its meaning. I've come up with a few whoppers myself. How do you interpret the collection? What are you thoughts? Let me know.
