Improprieties 2020
In the early months of 2020, it seemed that the whole world had gone mad - social unrest, a global pandamic, fights in stores over toilet paper, shootings, and rioting in the streets. Watchiing the events unfold in front of us, people were either stunned into a state of shock and horror, indifferent, or as mad as hell. By using the three wise monkeys, a Japanese pictorial maxim, embodying the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil", seemed the perfect symbol to express what I was witnessing and feeling.
Per the Cambridge Dictionary, an impropriety is a failure to observe socially accepted standards. Behavior that is dishonest, socially unacceptable, or unsuitable for a particular situation. In my opion, as expressed in this painting, 2020 was filled with Improprieties.
